I just recently listened to the  "Strategy and SWOT" podcasts, as my (small) company is looking to do a deep-dive analysis of the company in order to develop a more coherent high-level strategy. I have heard a lot about Porter's 5 Forces as a framework to understand (as far as I can tell) the external/market forces that drive a company (i.e. the O and T in SWOT). I have a few questions:

1.) What are the MT thoughts about Porter's 5 Forces? And how do they relate to the guidance on SWOT and Strategy?

2.) Can anyone recommend a good resource to learn more about it? Preferably a  short/condensed source, as I am already elbows deep in "need to read" books. Or alternately a good podcast, which I can absorb much more quickly and effectively.

Thanks anyone for information.

Check out the original HBR paper on line (if you have subscription) or pick up The book "On Strategy" from HBR which is a collection of a number of articles (HBR's 10 Must Reads).

I have had the HBR' 10 Must Reads sitting on my Kindle for a little while now. I did not even realize that the original article was in there. Thanks!
